A Celebration of Excellence with Octavian

The Golden Vines Weekend 2024 brought together fine wine collectors, connoisseurs, and industry leaders in a grand celebration of wine and philanthropy. Held in Madrid, the weekend aimed to raise vital funds for the Gérard Basset Foundation, an organisation dedicated to creating a more diverse and inclusive future in the wine, spirits, and hospitality industries. Octavian Wine Services played a pivotal role as a partner and sponsor, further enhancing its reputation as a trusted custodian of the world’s finest wines.

Honouring Legacy, Supporting Excellence

The Gérard Basset Foundation, named after the legendary Gérard Basset OBE MS MW, has positively impacted over 1,200 beneficiaries in more than 30 countries. Through education and support, the foundation is fostering a future where opportunities in wine and hospitality are accessible to all, regardless of background. The Golden Vines Weekend served as a beacon of this mission, offering masterclasses, prestigious dinners, and, notably, the exclusive Paulée lunch sponsored by Octavian.

A Paulée to Remember

Octavian’s sponsorship of the Sunday Paulée at Vinology, a renowned wine-focused restaurant in Madrid, was a highlight of the weekend. Guests enjoyed an exquisite menu alongside superb wines, including the 1998 Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux, supplied by Octavian. From monkfish with citrus to slow-cooked oxtail and caramelised brioche with PX Sacristía 2006, every dish celebrated the artistry of fine wine and food pairing. Guests also shared rare bottles from their private collections, creating a communal celebration of exceptional wines.

Guests Who Shape the Industry

The Paulée brought together an influential mix of guests:

  • Nina and Romané Basset: Champions of the Gérard Basset Foundation’s vision for inclusivity in wine education.
  • Mike DeSimone and Jeff Jenssen: Acclaimed wine writers and contributors to Robb Report.
  • Loïc Pasquet: Creator of Liber Pater, a producer of some of the world’s most unique wines.
  • Ferran Centelles: Esteemed sommelier and Beverage Director at El Bulli Foundation.
  • Sarah Abbott MW: Representing Octavian and opening the Paulée with a presentation on the rewards and importance of professional cellaring for wine.

These luminaries, alongside private collectors and professionals, created an atmosphere of collaboration and shared passion.

A Vision for the Future

Octavian’s participation not only highlighted its expertise in fine wine storage but also strengthened its connection with the global wine community. The event underscored the importance of proper cellaring for preserving the value and heritage of fine wines. With plans to build on this success, Octavian is committed to continuing its partnership with Golden Vines and exploring new opportunities to engage with collectors and industry leaders.

The Golden Vines Weekend 2024 was a resounding success, leaving an indelible mark on all who attended. For Octavian, it was an opportunity to celebrate the world of fine wine, honour a meaningful legacy, and reinforce its dedication to supporting excellence in the industry.
